ALL MOUTH AND NO TROUSERS, DEUS EX MACHINA #2, ANEMONE TEATRET, COPENHAGEN
Participatory Immersive Performance by Juliana Snapper, Lola Ajima and LuN/A
A site-variable, modular performance using the bodies of the audience, the space containing us, and live processing of improvised performance. The audience is invited to incite the performance through structured breathing and “liminal” sounds (sighing in pleasure, relief, passive-aggressive disgust; purring, huffing, chuffing etc.) We begin with a playful rehearsal of the audience-cum-choir. LuN/A gradually draws the sounds of the audience/choir into an immersive electronic texture (intensified by Lola's acousmonium). Snapper moves between bodies pressing-into and pulling away from the sounds around her in operatic tropes of longing and ecstasy: trilling, fioratura, edging suspensions. Listening and expression are dispersed, in a crystalized scatter of roles and operations:, further interrupted by the division between physical presence and recalled sounds (voiced by the speakers) animating the entire space as a breathing, remembering, all-cradling shared body.
Deus Ex Machina # 2 is a 2-day music and sound art festival with spatial sound and acousmatic music as turning point.
The event takes place at the Anemone Theater in the Inner City and here the audience will be able to experience concerts, sound installations and sound perception (ASMR) through the many speakers that surround audience and conducted by various composers.
The event will also form the framework for a common learning spaces, both for the performers who are given the opportunity to explore the spatial potential of sound, but to a large extent also for the visitors who are invited to explore the universe of sound, play with and ask questions after each performance.
The festival is a continuation of Deus Ex Machina # 1 which was successfully held at The Danish Performing Arts School in 2015.
